Heather Millar
Fine Artist & Photographer
My name’s Heather! I’m a 2019 Fine Art & Philosophy graduate, based in Fife Scotland.
My most recent completed body of work Devila explores territories of the uncanny, folklore and the occult as well as taking influence from local, historical witch trials. My practice lies somewhere between performance and photography as I am both author and subject of my photographs. Using imagery of the female body in woodland landscapes along with the creation of a haunting atmosphere, I aim to give the suggestion that a story is being told.
Biography | Heather Millar (b.1997) is a Scottish, contemporary fine artist and photographer. Graduating with a BA (Upper Second-Class Honours) in Fine Art & Philosophy from DJCAD, Dundee. Her art practice is primarily focused on exploring territories of the uncanny, folklore and of the occult, using the visual language of symbolism and surrealism. Lying somewhere between photographer and performer, she is both subject and author of her photographs. The female body features heavily in her work, usually seen in natural or woodland landscapes. She features the creation of otherworldly realms alongside the production of haunting atmospheres to allude to the idea that a story is being told. Inspired by mythology, romanticism and all things supernatural, she enjoys blurring the lines between photography and painting. Heather now lives and works in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland.
